In this video we show you how to take an existing part and cover it it real carbon fibre. In the video we use a carbon fibre skinning kit (available from http://www.carbonmods.co.uk ) which includes all of the materials needed to cover a number of parts in carbon fibre. We call this technique skinning but other name are carbon fibre wrapping, coating and covering. This product and many more are also available from http://www.easycomposites.co.uk. Mar 23, 2012 - Just a little question: If carbon fiber is almost as strong as steel, how can you cut or sand it?

ThEc00lEr Says:

Mar 23, 2012 - you cut it with scissors and sand it with sand paper =D

yonchvader Says:

Mar 25, 2012 - Yes that I understand, my question is how can you cut such a strong material with scissors.

ThEc00lEr Says:

Mar 25, 2012 - When it does not have resin on it then it is like cloth. It is not hard and you can cut it with a normal pair of scissors. The resin is what gives it that strength like fiberglass.

carbonmods Says:

Mar 26, 2012 - Hi Yonchvader, well, firstly, steel can be cut and sanded too. The main reason it's much easier with carbon is because carbon fibre's strength works differently to steel, it's a bittle material with poor 'elongation to break' properties which means fibres can be individually broken easily (which is why sanding is so effective). Weight-for-weight however the tensile strength is higher than steel which is why it's referred to as 'stronger' than steel.

Mar 28, 2012 - £22.00 postage, sounds like a bit to much dont you think?

Mar 30, 2012 - Look nice, but I don't have the time from this

thewillage Says:

Mar 30, 2012 - can you wrap a foam RC airplane canopy with this? Will it adhere to foam?

carbonmods Says:

Mar 30, 2012 - It depends what type of foam the canopy is made from. If it's Depron then the bond will be ok but it won't be fantastic. If it's PU foam, styrofoam, or PVC foam then the bond will be a lot better. You should ensure that the canopy (or anything you are covering) is keyed-up properly (with coarse abrasive paper) which will help the 'skin' stick to any material.

carbonmods Says:

Mar 30, 2012 - You would only pay £22 if you are in a country that's a long way from us. We charge exactly what the postage costs us (the price we pay will be printed on the label). In many cases; the USA, Australia etc. we actually charge less for postage than the postage costs us. We all wish postage was cheaper but sending a 2kg kit half way round the world is not going to be cheap. I think charging less than it costs us is pretty fair but it's your choice :)

Apr 10, 2012 - Is this scratch proof?

corvette4554 Says:

Apr 11, 2012 - thats awesome

roccocool Says:

Apr 14, 2012 - Can this process be done to a flexible exterior plastic auto part such as the lower rear fascia of a Corvette. Can the overlay take a little flexing and will it stay laminated to a flexible plastic part? The only flexing would be while sanding. The part does not flex on the car. Thanks for the video.

soapman7x7 Says:
