K. Balachander's 'Unnal Mudiyum Thambi', is a soulful film which leaves an important message in the minds of the youngsters. The film revolves around the clash between Bilahari Marthandam Pillai (Gemini Ganesan), a renowned classical singer and his son Udayamurthy (Kamal Haasan). The music maestro considers his art to be above all the other things in life while his son maintains that service to humanity was the ultimate aim of his life. Marthandam Pillai's eldest son despite having a hearing disability picks up an interest in playing the 'nadhaswaram'. Now, the father looks out for his younger son to carry forward his vocal abilities and earn fame. When he realizes that Udayamurthy has a different plan in mind, it creates a rift between them. How is Udayamurthy going to relive his father's dreams through his social services forms the crux of this film. A must watch.
