Today in homes where airconditioning is the norm, rattan-weave chairs have given way to soft comfortable sofas. Rattan is durable and also popular for its cool comfort especially in a tropical country like Singapore. But nowadays these chairs are rare and hard to find for when the rattan seats are worn and torn they are more often than not discarded away because it is almost impossible to find a professional repairer. But thanks to the internet and Youtube it is still possible to find professionals willing to share their expertise and source the materials to salvage such valuable pieces of furniture.

Oct 26, 2010 - I never knew how this was done! Did you have to weave the caning or did you just reuse the one you took out of the chair already?

Oct 26, 2010 - Dear Nancy, Problem is getting a professional repairer for the job, hence the D.I.Y. Getting a new rattan seat is easy as there are many around if you search the net. i got mine from a professional supplier/caner from Australia. The details are in my ackmt at the end of my video at 4.50 to 5.07. For a more professional n detailed instruction visit his youtube channel (wickerguru). Regards.
