A German camera crew filmed this record of family life in Tokyo 45 years ago. The children go off to school and father works in the factory. It was the start of the industrial boom in the so-called Showa time. Labour was still cheap. TV sets were hand soldered. Many parts were still manufactured in small home industries. Finally the family gathers again in their tiny homes. Futons behind the wall doors. A time Japanese are still nostalgic about.

Apr 9, 2012 - 1961年生まれなので、ちょうどこの三人兄妹の末っ子と同じくらいかな。葛飾区青戸から川口市に引っ越して来たのが同じ頃です。引越しと同時に奮発して電気冷蔵庫が我が家に来たし、白黒TVもありました。シンクからレンジまでが一体のステンレスキッチンだったのが近代的に思えました。母は和服ではありませんでしたが、買い物かごを下げてお使いに行ってましたね。一軒家になってからはイヌ(名前はポチ)も飼いました。母がイヌにおつけ掛けごはんをあげてましたが、ネギ入ってなかったんでしょうかね?団地の中の幼稚園に行ったのですが、新しくてキレイで近代的で驚きました。小学校は木造校舎でもっと驚きましたが、今となっては木造校舎で学んだ経験があることが自慢です。 お人形さんも大好きで、このお姉ちゃんがもっている「バービー」ちゃんが欲しくてね。当時の人形の洋服は出来が非常に良くて、裏地が付いていたり、ほつれ止めにチュールレースが挟み込んであったり。「バービー」買ってもらえなかった反動で、我が家には10体以上の「バービー」「ジェニー」がいます。懐かしいですね「モノゴコロついた」まさにその頃の映像です。

May 4, 2012 - 後で見た当時の映像、テレビ番組などの殆どがモノクロなため、記憶の中もモノクロでしたが こうしてカラーで見ると、不思議と古臭く見えないものですね。 我が家はきちんと「いただきます」を言わないと食べさせてもらえなかったのですが 撮影でかなり緊張していた様子が窺えますね(笑)

May 13, 2012 - Thanks for your response. I bet they didn't sell shoes size 9 1/2 (44 in Europe) . In Japan I couldn't buy shoes my size in the fifties because their feet were smaller. But now that Japanese are born taller their size may have gone up too!
