The title says it all! I do not know what this light is used for, so any help will be very greatly appreciated.

Feb 4, 2011 - im sure its so other trains can spot them if they're stopped waiting for a signal too change all the freights have them so they can be spotted at night while stopped or at a siding i could be wrong but thats the only thing i can think off

Feb 7, 2012 - Neat catch on seeing both beacons turned on. The orange one is fr visibilty can help crews locate were engines are in railyards. The red one has one use I know of either low oil pressure or the water in the engine is getting to cold. I don't think that is the case here though I think they were both manualy turned on. Either way great catch! Metra is really the only railroad that still uses beacons on ll their engines. I hope this help, This videos is going under my favorites
